9th July The Mote League
Anita Thorose and Keely Juster opened the batting, and from the first ball she faced, Meobs took the attack to the Mote. In Janice Fraserıs absence, Meobs relished the opportunity to make her mark. The bowling was tight good line and length, but Meobs punished everything that wasnıt perfect. A healthy run rate of 5 an over was never in danger of slipping, as Chander Kaul joined her getting of the mark with a big full toss. At the half way stage, when it looked like we might start to get bogged down a little, Stockie came out and for a few overs, it looked like 300 was on the cards, as they vied with each other for who could hit the ball the furthest. Stockieıs departure brought Leonie Shields to the hallowed middle that is Argyle Road, and she continued where Stockie had left off indeed they scored the same 31, before deciding to leave Meobs to enjoy herself.
With the end in sight, and the tantalising chance to carry her bat, tiredness finally got the better of Meobs, and she fell for 125, with 4 overs to go. An innings of pure power 20 4ıs and two 6ıs, which was almost faultless. A lot has been said, much by me, about the decline in the Spirit of Cricket, but I have to say that the Mote, for all the stories that preceeded them, know how to play the game. The one chance that Meobs did give an ankle high catch on the square leg boundary, which was grounded on the follow through dive / role, and was immediately not claimed. Meobs was convinced she was out and was half way across the pitch, when she realised and had to scamper back and narrowly avoided being run out!! Thanks to her effort, we finished on the very impressive score of 235.
In reply, Stockie turned to age and experience, beauty and wisdom they can argue over who is who Sarah Bartlett and Radhi Nanalal. They bowled superbly really putting pressure on the batsmen, who were struggling to get the run rate over 2 an over. It only the tenacious batting of Plush, who put up resistance having the cheek to hit Radhi for three 4ıs in one over doesnıt she know who Radhi is?! Danni Warren slowed the ball down and swung it and proved as difficult as Barts for the batsmen to get away. Another example to warm the cockles of your heart was to see a youngster actually walking, before the umpire had a chance to give her out again, really refreshing.
With the dismissal of Plush, bowled by Barts for 75, the fight seemed to go out of the Mote. Coupled with the fact that Barts the bunny bowler was back on she picked up 5 for 14 in 5 overs, in her second spell numbers 3, 7,8,10 and 11. Leonie and Danni giving her evilsı all the way, as theyıd been asked to bowl at the top / middle order. Such is the friendly rivalry at Gunns!!
A good convincing win, and a ton (the third different person to score one this season, as well as Bethıs blip when on 99!) and a 5 ferı not bad for a dayıs work.
