History of Gunnersbury WCC

Gunnersbury WCC was founded in 1925, a year before the national Women's Cricket Association was formed.

We first played at a school in Gunnersbury Lane, and continued to play in the area until World War II. Then, and until 1955, the Gunns were based at Headstone Lane in North Pinner. Gunnersbury WCC then started to use a ground at Boston Manor, Brentford. Our final move was to our current ground in Argyle Road, Ealing, in 1972, tenants of Ealing Technical College, now part of Thames Valley University.

Gunnersbury WCC has a long tradition of supplying players to the national and County squads., two members were selected for the first ever England team, which toured Australia in 1934. Gunnersbury has a strong policy of encouraging junior players to enjoy their cricket and realise their potential in the game.

The strength of the Club is reflected in the playing honours achieved. For 4 years, from 1979 - 1982, the Club won the National Club Knock out competition. After a couple of semi-final losses in the intervening years, this feat was finally achieved again in our 75th year, 2000. In 2001 we won the South Premier Division, and went on to win the National League Title. In 2003 we ran a second XI for the first time.

Since the introduction of the 2nd XI the club has gone from strength to strength with both the 1st and 2nd XI's winning promotion in 2006 and succesfully building on that in 2007.
